With the likes of Kindle and Digital Newstands, as well as many magazines successfully turning to online versions of themselves, I’m left wondering if the days of printed magazines are coming to an end.
It seems to me that the new generation are becoming more and more tech savvy; dependent on technology more than ever before. I’m reminded of what happened to vinyl when CDs came along, and what happened to CDs when MP3s emerged (let’s not even mention minidiscs).
A part of me is saddened at the thought, as reading tangible print has played a huge part of my life ever since childhood, but is it necessarily a bad thing? The rain forests are depleting at an ever more rapid rate due to trees being cut down for paper and other consumer goods, so perhaps going digital is the most environmentally friendly way forward for us all.
Without getting too caught up in the politics of it all, my guess is that things will sway in whichever direction the economy does, and as far as I can see, the online revolution doesn’t seem like it will be slowing down any time soon.
What are your thoughts on it?
